WCPSS is the largest public school district in North Carolina and 14th largest in the United States as of 2016.
As per 2020-21 data, the wake county Public Schools System operates total of 117 elementary schools, 37 middle schools, 31 High schools, 6 Alternative schools and a number of K-8, 6-12 schools.
